Description

Dr. Romeo B. Garrett was a very educated man who earned degrees from Dillard University, Bradley University, and New York University. While being highly regarded as the first African American professor at Bradley, he was also recognized as being the first person to introduce African American history in the classroom setting. Dr. Garrett also documented the life and struggles of African Americans throughout history and Peoria in his three books. This image is important because it was published by the Peoria Visitors Bureau. Anyone coming into Peoria could look at this Visitors Guide and learn about a great man that came out of the Peoria area. This helps contribute to the recognition that Garrett deserves.
