Description

This is a poster for Garry Moore's play Black To The Future, A Journey into Peoria’s African American History. Black to the Future is based on Dr. Romeo B. Garrett's The Negro in Peoria. This play tells the story of two students as they travel through time meeting historical figures, including Jean DuSable, Frederick Douglass, Moses Pettengill, Annie Malone, Dr. Maude Sanders, John Gwynn, and Frank Campbell. Dr. Garrett wrote The Negro in the Peoria in 1970. Through this play, Garry Moore was able to teach new generations about Garrett's work. This play was originally performed in 1992 as part of Peoria’s Tri-Centennial Celebration and was performed again in 2003. It was most recently performed in 2018.
